What kitchen plumbers do
Kitchen plumbing: what's involved
Kitchen plumbing covers everything from a simple sink swap to full repiping for a new kitchen fit-out. Most jobs involve supply pipes, waste pipes, and appliance connections.
If you are fitting a new kitchen, it makes sense to have a plumber on site before units are installed so all pipework can be planned and routed before cabinetry goes in.
- Kitchen sink installation and waste connection
- Dishwasher plumbing and waste outlet
- Washing machine supply and drain
- Under-sink boiling water tap installation
- Water filter systems
- Relocation of supply or waste pipes for new layouts
Common jobs
Types of kitchen plumbing work
Sink installation
Fitting a new kitchen sink involves connecting hot and cold supply pipes, fitting the waste trap, and running the waste pipe to the drain. Allow half a day for a straightforward swap, longer if relocating the sink position.
Dishwasher connection
Dishwashers need a cold water supply, a waste outlet, and a power socket nearby. If you are installing a dishwasher where one has not been before, a plumber will need to tap into the existing supply and run waste.
Washing machine plumbing
Washing machines require a cold fill supply (some older models need hot and cold), a drain hose connected to a standpipe or trap, and adequate drainage. Incorrect drainage causes the most common problems.
Boiling water tap
Under-sink boiling water tanks (Quooker and similar) require a cold supply connection and waste outlet. Some models also need an electrical connection, so plumber and electrician coordination may be needed.
